KEVIN DIXON, VIRGIN ISLANDS PAGE TO THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION

Kevin Dixon is 20-year-old native of the island of St. Kitts,WI, the last of three children born to the parents of Charles and Arlene Dixon. He enrolled into the University of the Virgin Islands in the fall of 2009, as a College Access Challenge Grant Program and Sterling Optical Scholarship recipient. Currently a Junior at the University of the Virgin Islands’ Albert A. Sheen St. Croix Campus, Kevin is a first generation college student. Mr. Dixon is also double majoring in Computer Information System and Business Administrations with a concentration in Marketing.
Mr. Dixon has a strong passion for volunteerism and is committed to the University community where he is involved in several organizations. Kevin is the newly elected President of Student Government Association. During the 2011-2012 school year, Dixon ran a successful campaign on his quest to become SGA President. Also, during his college years, he has served in different capacities such as; Treasurer of Student Government Association 2011-2012, past position as Public Relations Officer in Student Government Association 2010-2011, Chairperson of the Shadow Our Students Committee 2010-2012, Vice President of Kappa Gamma Management and Marketing 2011-2012. Kevin also serves on several University wide committees as student the official representative to groups such as St. Croix Presidential Advisory Council, the St. Croix Discipline Committee, the Student Technology Fee Committee and the Golden Jubilee Operations Committee.
Dixon is also an active member in his community. He has served as the Captain for Youth that Help Cancer Survivors Team for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life event. While being actively involved in his University, he is also a member of Voices of Praise Community Choir, and a Leader of Children’s Church Ministry at the Sunny Isle Baptist Church. Service, leadership, and touching individuals’ lives are motivating factors that fuel his involvement and dedication to his institution and community. Kevin sincerely finds great pleasure in serving others.
One of his most important accomplishments, to date, is serving as the Shadow Our Students Committee (SOS) Chairperson. The SOS Program serves as a major recruitment initiative to UVI. It’s goal is to create a mentoring relationship between UVI students and students in the local secondary educational system. During his tenure, he expanded the SOS program to in the “Planting the Seeds” SOS initiative, where over one hundred fifth and sixth grade students had the opportunity experience firsthand, the importance of higher education. In addition, he hosted the sixth annual SOS Program on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, where over two hundred eleventh and twelfth grade students, got the opportunity to explore many options for educational advancement available at UVI. This program was lauded as successful by students, staff, faculty and administration. Also another one of his accomplishments, to date, has been serving as the Captain for the Relay for Life team, where at the age of sixteen, he lead a group of over twenty individuals and raised over two thousand dollars to be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Kevin Dixon is expected to graduate May of 2014. With graduation ahead of him, he plans to earn a position where his skills and talents can be used while improving the lives of others. With plans to further his education, he plans to pursue a Masters Degree in Public Relations, while gaining more knowledge and experience in the other areas of his personal passion, photography and graphic design. In the near future, he plans to become an entrepreneur where his business will focus on the areas of photography, and graphics design.
